NTI Citizenship Special Prize

The mission of the National Transformation Initiative is to promote and facilitate personal development and transformation among individuals in Barbados. We achieve this through comprehensive training, upskilling, and lifelong learning opportunities. Our overarching goal is to equip every Barbadian citizen with the knowledge, skills, and values essential for fostering good character and competence within a SMART Barbados that actively engages with the digital world.

In the pursuit of our mission, the NTI is actively encouraging all Barbadians to explore and embrace their national identity, and to contemplate what it truly means to be a Bajan while contributing to the ongoing development of Mission Barbados. In alignment with these objectives, as initially discussed with you last year, we propose to introduce the “NTI Citizenship Special Prize” category for NIFCA 2023. Under this category, participants will be invited to create artistic pieces across seven distinct categories: Dance, Music, Film, Theatre, Literary, Culinary and Visual Arts. The theme for these entries will revolve around an individual’s interpretation of what it means to be an active citizen of Barbados.

Additionally, a special prize will be awarded for a Person with Disabilities who fulfils the eligibility criteria and attains the highest ranking across any or all seven categories.

The total value of the prizes offered under the “NTI Citizenship Special Prize” is $15,000.

To ensure that participants have a comprehensive understanding of the concept of citizenship, they must enrol in and complete, at a minimum, the Course Essentials component of the NTI Citizenship Course which can be accessed online at the following link: https://training.nti.org.bb/citizenship/. This eLearning course is designed to be completed at one’s own pace and convenience, and the full course only takes approximately 13 hours to finish. The Citizenship Course, like all courses on the NTI Learning Management System, is provided free of charge to all Barbadian citizens.

The course focuses on various aspects of our civic responsibilities and rights as citizens. It equips participants with the tools required to enhance communication, collaboration, and active engagement in community, church, and country. Additionally, it aids individuals in exploring personal goals, assessing their skills, comprehending the functioning of our government, and understanding the roles and responsibilities of our official leaders. Ultimately, the course delves into the very essence of being a Barbadian and what it signifies for Barbados to be a Republic.
